Asian Collection
I am drawn to the Asian design esthetic. The key elements for me are simplicity and clean lines.
Blue Bird is an elegant piece that makes a strong statement. It is made out of antique silk kimono that was gifted to me by a person who saved it in a heap in the back of her closet, knowing that some day she would meet someone who would value it and give it a second life. Traditionally, men’s kimono are black with ornate linings. When I received this kimono, the bird’s head appeared to be missing. My knowledge of kimono lead me to believe they had pleated rather than cut the lining. Careful removal of the hand stitching revealed the beautiful blue bird embroidered on a silk screened background of stones and reeds.

Kimono is fabricated from repurposed paper. I purchased a small handbook that had Asian writing in it at a used book sale. I dismantled the book and tea-stained the pages. The pages were collaged and sewn together. The kimono is a piece of hand painted fabric that I origami folded.

This bowl is hand painted with the elements Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind. It was then hand beaded with glass and asin beads. This bowl appeared in my book: Beaded Boxes and Bowls.
