At Bailey Fiber Art, We Love to Teach!

Our Philosophy:

We believe that the arts encourage innovation and self-expression by opening boundless opportunities, creating meaning from chaos, nurturing the spirit and making the seemingly impossible possible.  By engaging in visual arts, the learner is empowered to transform, creating confidence and self-esteem and developing intellectual skills.  The arts inspire, encourage and connect us to both ourselves and the world around us. The arts awaken the individual to believe and follow one’s dreams.

Adults with Special Needs

Art Experience (1 ½ hr class)

Adults with cognitive challenges meet every other week to create various art projects.  These projects are specifically designed to target and develop a variety of skills. The participants really enjoy the opportunity to interact with each other and learn something new.  Projects are age appropriate yet designed for successful completion. The finished projects fall into two categories. Many of the projects are for personal use by the class participants.  The rest of the projects are made for giving.  Some projects go to family and friends.  Others support the community, like nursing homes, the Humane Society, and U.S. soldiers abroad.  I feel it is very important for everyone to give back to the community in which they live.  I believe everyone has something of value to offer others regardless of ability.  And, as I teach my students, when giving to others you get back tenfold.

Recommendations

“Bailey exhibits a high level of commitment.  She has a clear vision and a can-do attitude.  She was adept in working with these (special ed) students.  She was very matter-of-fact about what they needed to get done, and kept her focus, not letting the students dictate distraction from the goals.  She broke everything into manageable steps and provided material choices without overwhelming them with too many options.  Her organization is noteworthy; she seemed to intuitively know how to work with the students and keep us on track.” Amy Broady, Art teacher

"I hardly have the words!!! ...your residency...Amazing!!!!  Just a wonderful job.  The work this year has really blown me away and I thank you for your hard work and efforts.  I am most impressed."  Lori Kissenger, Executive Director VSA-TN

"Bailey is an extremely well-organized, creative, patient, and caring artist. She has a heart for those with disabilities and a strong desire to share her art and vision with them. She has worked with people of all ages, allowing each one of them to excel in their own particular creative way. Her students have made small projects that they could keep for themselves, as well as projects that have been displayed in local schools and businesses. Everyone feels a sense of pride and accomplishment at the end of each of Bailey's workshops. She seeks input from her clients and develops an art project that will fulfill the requirements of the educational curriculum, meet the IEP needs of her students, and be completed within the timeframe promised. She is an incredible artist herself and I highly recommend her for future projects."  Brenda Ferrell, Parent

“Thanks Bailey for a great class! Looking forward to more!”  Lisa Fisher - The Wellness Community
